A six month look at contemporary fiction, this book club is designed with the avid reader in mind. With everything from family drama to miraculous science and historical fiction, we are reading new releases, new in paperback, and that book that everyone was talking about.
Join us at Commonplace every fourth Tuesday in April, May, June, July, August, and September, at 7pm. Lead by Janet O’Kresik, this book club is the perfect one whether you are first dipping your toes into the waters of book lead discussions, or book clubs are your trademark social engagement! Read books and make friends; come for all six meetings, or pick and choose.
The Storyteller Book Club will meet six times, to give opportunity for those contemporary fiction books that we all need to be able to talk out with no fear of spoilers, so read the book before you come to discuss it!
Join Commonplace Books staff member Jenna, every month on the first Saturday at 6:30pm, for a look at others’ stories. This book club embraces the value of those quotes by Wendell Berry and C.S. Lewis that Commonplace was founded on: “It is not from ourselves that we learn to be better than we are” (Wendell Berry), and “We read to know we are not alone” (C.S. Lewis).
Jenna has loved memoir for a long time. A listener who needs to speak only a few words to encourage introspection in others, she is excited to help foster community around others’ stories, and we are so pleased to have her thoughtful presence facilitating this first bookclub of memoirs in Commonplace history.
Read the book and join the discussion.
We love the value there is in getting to know our regular guests. Johnny Manchild, a classically trained musician and jazz touring artist, is one of those guests we have recognized frequently, but it was not until he pointed it out to us that we understood his hunt for books centers around music literature. The conversation has lead to a brand new book club that he will be facilitating.
The Music Literature Book Club will discuss a variety of books about music; the music industry, the reading and playing of music, and unique stories of musicians. This book club is for a spectrum of readers! Serious musicians, those who sit down to the piano once in awhile, and listeners who appreciate what music can do.
Join us on the third Sunday of each month, at 11am.
